This trip will take you to the World Heritage sites in Tunisia. The highlights on this trips includes the visit to the Medina of Tunis, Visit the archaeological site of Dougga/Thugga

Visit the recently restored fortress overlooking the harbor, Visit the Punic Town of Kerkuane and its Necropolis, Visit Thuburmo Majus or Colonia Julia Aurelia Commoda, its Roman name.

 

Day One: Arrival in Tunis

Upon your arrival at the airport, the guide from Afrikan Wildlife Safaris will welcome you and then drive you to the hotel for the overnight.  Dinner and overnight at Tunisia Palace Hotel.

 

Day Two: Tunis

After your breakfast, you will go for the city tour. you will visit the National Museum of Bardo. The Bardo Museum contains some the most complete ancient Roman Mosaics in the entire world. Then go to explore the famous ruins of Carthage where the guide will take you to the Phoenician Cemetery, Antonin’s Bath, Punic Harbors, Museum and more. If time permits, you may drive up to the beautiful Sidi Bou Said, which overlooks the Gulf of Tunis. Dinner and overnight at Tunisia Palace Hotel.

 

Day Three: Tunis to Dougga, Kairouan

This morning, you will visit the archaeological site of Dougga which was build in the 17 centuries.  Then proceed to historical city of Kairouan. Don’t forget to check on the amazing mosque of Sidi Okba, ancient medina, and Aghlabiden pool. Dinner and overnight at El Mouradi Hotel.

 

Day Four: Kairouan to El Jem, Port El Kantaoui

In the morning, we start with the Holy city of Kairouan which was build in 670, the city flourished under the Aghlabid dynasty in the 9th century. Despite the transfer of the political capital to Tunis in the 12th century, Kairouan remained the Maghreb’s principal Holy city. Its rich architectural heritage includes the Great Mosque, with its marble and porphyry columns, and the 9th-century Mosque of the Three Gates. In the afternoon, we go to El Jem with impressive ruins of the largest colosseum in North Africa, a huge amphitheatre which could hold up to 35,000 spectators, are found in the small village of El Jem. Day Five: Port El Kantaoui, Sousse, Hammamet

Today, we will drive to Soussewhich was an important commercial and military port during the Aghlabid period 800–909. With its kasbah, ramparts, medina. Sousse was part of a coastal defense system. Then proceed to Hammamet and visit the Spanish fortress and the Medina.
Dinner and overnight at Le Sultan Hotel.

 

Day Six: Hammamet to Kerkuane, Tunis

Get your breakfast and we drive to the coastal town of Nabeul, the main centre of the Tunisian pottery industry. Continue to Kelibia and visit the recently restored fortress overlooking the harbor. In the afternoon we visit the Punic Town of Kerkuane and its Necropolis. This Phoenician city was probably abandoned during the First Punic War of 250 B.C and as a result was not rebuilt by the Romans. The remains constitute the only example of a Phoenician-Punic city to have survived. Dinner and overnight at Tunisia Palace Hotel.

 

Day Seven: Tunis

For this day, we will explore the ruins of Utica, set on a low hill, composed of several Roman villas. In the afternoon we visit Thuburmo Majus or Colonia Julia Aurelia Commoda, its Roman name. Originally a Punic town, it became a Roman veteran colony by Augustus, which allowed them to start their post-army lives with the land of their own. Dinner and overnight at Tunisia Palace Hotel.

 

Day Eight: Fly out

After your breakfast, the guide will transfer you to the airport to catch your flight back home.
