Madagascar Biking and Hiking

Day One: Arrival

On your arrival in Antananarivo – Madagasacar, you will be welcomed by your guide from Afrikan Wildlife Safaris who will then transfer to the hotel for the overnight. Depending on the tive you arrive, you may go to explore the rich cultural, historical, and architectural sites of Madagasacar.

 

Day Two: Antsirabe

After the breakfast, you will drive to Antsirabe where we will meet our bikes and go for a short ride at a leisurely pace, checking on road conditions before we start exploring Madagascar.

 

Day Three: Andraikiba and Tritriva

This morning, go and explore the crater lakes of Andraikiba and Tritriva, both full of legends and mysteries. Then later have a picnic lunch by Lake Tritrivia. Ride a long downhill back to our the lodge.

 

Day Four: Ambositra

We need t start early because it s the longest ride which takes us to Ambositra to visit the Zafimaniry, an ethnic tribe living in the forested mountains and famous for their wood carvings, listed as part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage.

 

Day Five: Ranomafana National Park

Today, we will use a van to takes us to Camp Robin where we will start riding from. The rural road, we will pedal past rice paddies and through a spectacular valley with towering granite boulders to Ambohimahasoa before ending the day at Ranomafana National Park.

 

Day Six: Ranomafana Nation-al Park

This another exciting day, we will be hiking to explore Ranomafana Nation-al Park, which is home to the golden bamboo lemur and more than 100 bird species, 30 of which alone are endemic to the country.

 

Day Seven: Sahambavy Tea Estate

This may be challangind day to some, there is a 22-km off-road section with no vehicle support, but then we ride on a good gravel road to our hotel, with a visit to the Sahambavy Tea Estate, Madagascar’s only tea plantation.

 

Day Eight: Ambalavao

After breakfast, we will ride to Ambalavao, Madagascar’s wine region, we take in captivating landscapes and stunning views of vineyards, terraced rice paddies, and rocky outcrops. If time allows we may visit a craft shop producing the well-known Antaimoro paper.

 

Day Nine: Anja

On this day, we will go through the grassland dotted with enormous granite mountains, we bike to Anja with its bizarre cliff formations. We walk into the park before spending two nights in the Tsaranoro Valley.

 

Day Ten:  Andringitra

Go for hiking at the edge of the granite Andringitra Massif, well-known for ring-tailed lemurs, bizarre cliffs, and other native animals and plants. At Chameleon Peak, we can appreciate stunning landscape of prairies and alpine patches.

 

Day Eleven: Horombe Plateau to Ranohira

This morning, we will bike across the Horombe Plateau to Ranohira. The landscape slowly changes into a wide-open savannah, and those wanting to cycle more can ride the last section to our lodge located at the foothills of I’Isalo National Park.

 

Day Twelve:  Isalo National Park

Take a short ride to the starting point of our hike in Isalo National Park with its beautiful landscape. On the way, visit canyons and look for the ring-tailed lemurs, as well as other, lemurs that live in Madagascar.

 

Day Thirteen: Toliara

After breakfast, we will continue cycling through the national park with rugged canyons and grassland to Ilakaka, famous for its sapphire deposits. Then transfer to the town of Toliara.

 

Day Fourteen:

This will be of leisure day, you can enjoy the beach with your favourite drink or go for the optional snorkel-ling in the Indian Ocean.

 

Day Fifteen:

After breakfast, the guide will transfer you to the airport depending on your flight time.
